Here is a glossary to help you when looking into creating your first custom sock model.
- All-Over sock: Sock featuring a repetitive design or pattern.
- Argyle: Diamond pattern featuring multiple colors.
- Ankle sock: Sock model covering the ankle.
- Crew sock: Sock model that extends above the ankle while remaining shorter than knee-high.
- Cuff: Top part of the sock allowing the sock to hold on to the leg.
- Dress sock: Formal sock model designed to be worn with pants.
- Foot: area located between the gusset and the toe.
- Gusset: small area located between the heel and the foot.
- Heel: area covering the back of the foot, below the leg.
- Instep: Stitches that make up the front or top of the foot.
- Mesh: Open knitting style that creates a pattern of interstices – used for sports.
- Knee-High sock: Sock model ending right below the knee.
- Leg: part of the sock located between the top and the heel.
- No-Show sock: Sock model that remains hidden by a shoe, below the ankle.
- Novelty sock: Youth or fashionable sock model featuring funky designs, patterns and colors.
- Quarter sock: Sock model covering a quarter of the leg, longer than ankle, shorter than crew.
- Ribbed sock: Sock model featuring vertical ridges, usually along the leg, which provides elasticity.
- Sole: area below the foot.
- Sport sock: Sock model specifically designed for sport performance.
- Terry: Knitting with secondary loop creating extra cushioning.
- Thigh-high sock: sock model reaching above the knee.
- Toe: small area at the end of the sock covering the toes.
- Tube sock: Long sock model which heel isn’t shaped.
