First you need to create your design which is usually done with a sock template. If you’re an entrepreneur but don’t have graphic/artistic design skills just hire a designer and give him/her guidelines about what you’re trying to do.
Once you have your sock template ready you need to look for a sock company. There are a couple things you should know before making a decision: If you are trying to make real, fully knitted custom socks that are made from scratch for you, there are only a few real custom manufacturers left such as Make My Socks. However, with the Elite socks craze, custom printing shops have been popping up all over the place but be aware that 1) they mostly print on pre-made blank socks 2) printed designs are more detailed but can’t compete with the quality and durability of knitted designs.
From there, all you have to do is to send your design to the manufacturer you selected. Based on this, they will create a Production mockup used to program knitting machines and after you approved the mockup, Production will start rolling. The whole process should take a few weeks, usually around 8 to 10 for serious manufacturers. This means you shouldn’t expect to have them done in a week as it’s pretty time consuming and labor intensive – I’m telling you this because we get these kinds of requests on an almost daily basis. Also, if your manufacturer promise your socks in just a few days, it should raise some red flags as you’ll most likely end with cheap, low quality products.
